Defending champion Masakazu Fujiwara and runnerup Arata Fujiwara have received invites, while world record holder Haile Gebrselassie of Ethiopia will feature among the foreign contingent at next month's Tokyo Marathon, organizers said Thursday.
The top finisher for Japan in the Feb. 27 Tokyo meet, which doubles as a qualifier for the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea, this summer, can win a berth to the worlds with a time of 2 hours, 9 minutes, 30 seconds or better.
Yoko Shibui and Kyoko Shimahara will run in the women's race, while Reiko Tosa, who recently came out of retirement after giving birth to her first child, makes her comeback after two years.
