Gebrselassie announced his retirement in November after dropping out of September's New York City Marathon with a knee injury.
He reversed his decision later in the month, citing the Japan event as his likely comeback date.
The 37-year-old holds the marathon world record of two hours three minutes 59 seconds, set in the 2008 Berlin Marathon, and is a twice Olympic champion over 10,000 metres.
