Ambush leaves Fulton Co. police officer dead

(Mar 05, 2105, (MyFox Atlanta‎))-FULTON COUNTY, Ga. - A police officer was killed in the line of duty early Wednesday morning in south Fulton County and a second officer was injured.

Fulton County Police tell us they originally went to a home in the 7200 block of Parks Trail in Fairburn around 12:40 a.m. regarding shots being fired inside a home. The call came from a person inside the house, according to police.

When officers arrived to the home the shooter, who has been identified as Amanuel Menghesa, had already left. Investigators say they received numerous calls after that about shots being fired in the neighborhood. According to police, Menghesa, who appeared to be drunk, was banging on doors trying to get into other homes.

More officers arrived on scene and searched the neighborhood for the suspect. At some point, officers came under fire without warning from the suspect and that's when Detective Terence Avery Green was shot. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he died.Green was a 22-year-veteran with the Fulton County Police Department. He is survived by his parents, four sons and other family members.
