(Feb 12, 2015, (Cairo))--Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry arrived in the Ethiopian capital on Thursday for bilateral talks upon the invitation of his counterpart Tedros Adhanom. The two will continue ongoing talks over a number of issues of mutual concern, Egyptian foreign ministry spokesperson Badr Abdel-Ati said.
In January, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi had cut short his trip in Ethiopia to attend the AU summit following a series of militant attacks in North Sinai that left at least 30 people dead. Shoukry's visit to Ethiopia comes at a time when the two countries attempt to patch up their relationship after years of tensions over the Ethiopian Grand Renaissance Dam.
The 6,000 megawatt dam is currently under construction on the Blue Nile, the Nile's most significant tributary. It is set to be Africa's largest, and is expected to be completed in 2017.Egypt, a downstream country, fears that the dam will affect its water share from the Nile. Read more from Ahram Online »
