(Feb 23, 2012, Daily Nation)--Ethiopian Airlines has announced plans to acquire 10 new planes in its expansion, which is set to stiffen competition in the African aviation sector.
Mr Zemene Nega, senior vice-president of the airline, says the plan will increase its travel destination to 129 destinations around the world from 79.
It also hopes to increase passenger traffic to 18 million by 2025 from 4.5 million passengers currently. “We have placed orders for the planes, but we don’t know when they will be completed,” Mr Nega told the Daily Nation on the sidelines of the 21st Annual African Aviation conference and exhibition held at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi. Mr Nega said the initial investment for the growth strategy is very heavy.
