(21 March 2011, By Kirubel Tadesse)--In his first press conference after being reelected in October, Prime Minister Meles Zenawi forecasts another double digit growth, promises to contain inflation and sees no chance of popular revolts happening in Ethiopia.

9.6 Million Birr Clean Water-Sanitation Project Benefiting 33,000 Launched

Addis Ababa, March 25, 2011 (Addis Ababa) Clean Water and Sanitation Project benefiting 33,000 people was launched here on Friday by an international NGO, AMREF.

Speaking on the occasion, AMREF in Ethiopia Country Director, Dr. Joaso Soares said on the occasion the project, estimated to cost 9.6 million Birr, will be carried out in woredas 5 and 7 of Gullele Sub-City here in Addis Ababa.

The AMREF will construct 10 community shower blocks and install solar panel for hot water supply and 15 shared toilets, each with a capacity of eight seats, among others.

The development of springs and construction of reservoirs are also part of the project.
AMREF has similar projects in Kechene area here in the capital which are being run by the community themselves.

Coordinator of the Project, Gadissa Hailu on his part said the community will be fully responsible in managing and maintaining the facilities. 

Hygiene sensitization and promotion is also part of the project activities to increase community awareness, the coordinator said.

Representative from Gullele Sub-City, Tiblets Teka on her part said the government is committed to support the project in its efforts.

AMREF is implementing this project with funds it received from Diageo, Euromoney, Boeing, Opal Foundation and Tragsa.

Agency Revokes License of Investors for Failing to Launch Investment Projects

March 26, 2011 (Addis Ababa, ENA)- The Ethiopian Investment Agency has revoked licenses of investors with an aggregate capital of 43 billion Birr for failing to launch their projects, its communication Director said.

Director, Getahun Negash told ENA over the weekend that the agency has cancelled the licenses of the 1,629 investment projects which failed to materialize.

He said the investors who were provided with the licenses since 1984 EC up to March this year had failed to launch their projects, though they were given all the necessary support by the government.

Similar measures will be taken by regional governments on those investors who fail to launch their projects, he said.
