AJMAN — She scrounged for food to feed her penury-stricken sponsor’s family. But now she’s had enough and is telling a shocking tale of abuse and exploitation. Thirty-year-old Allam Baqala claims she was forced to beg for food in the neighbourhood to ensure meals for 12 members of the household.

 TRAVERSE CITY — Matt Desmond had never run more than 14 miles at a stretch until June.

Beginning Sunday, he'll run the equivalent of a marathon every day for 10 days in the Run Across Ethiopia, an effort to raise money to build three schools in the African country.

JEDDAH: With a growing demand for house helps in the Kingdom and scarcity of manpower from Indonesia, the tendency now is to recruit housemaids from countries such as Ethiopia and Nepal, said Yahya Hassan Al-Maqbool, chairman of the Committee of Recruitment Offices at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
