(October 23, 2011, YLE)--Minister for International Development Heidi Hautala departed on a visit to Ethiopia and Kenya on Sunday. Hautala will discuss current issues with leaders of both countries and representatives of various organisations.
On the agenda during Hautala’s visit are the situation in the Horn of Africa, food security and matters of human rights and democracy in the area.
In Ethiopia, the minister will meet the country’s leadership, as well as representatives of local and Finnish NGOs active in the country. She will also be apprised of the implementation of Finland’s development cooperation projects in the Amhara region in the northwestern part of the country.
In Kenya, in addition to meetings with the country’s leadership and with representatives of the UN, various NGOs and other organisations, Hautala will visit refugee camps and a development cooperation project in a Nairobi slum. This marks Hautala’s first visit to these long-term development cooperation partners of Finland.
