(July 11, 2011 (Addis Ababa) - South Korean President Lee Myung -bak said the five-year Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP) is the fundamental basis for the development of Ethiopia which he is on the right track.
He made the remark while holding discussion with Prime Minister Meles Zenawi and other senior government officials here on Sunday on issues of mutual concern, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affiars Minister, Hailemariam Desalegn .
President Lee Myung -bak said what Ethiopia is pursuing the development path was what Korea had been following in the past.
He said what Ethiopia should learn from Korea is that its best development practices and not give up fighting poverty, among others.
"Don't give up, you should work hard to achieve your dreams. That were words of the president," said Hailemariam.
President Lee Myung -bak said the achievement Ethiopia has attained in the education sector is the major basis for its development.
He said his country was ready to extend assistance to Ethiopia to help it realize the goals of its GTP. According to Hailemariam, Ethiopia and South Korea have signed a number of bilateral; cooperation agreement. South Korea has also extended 100 million UWS dollar assistance to Ethiopia.
