(June 23, 2011, (Addis Ababa))--Ethiopia has donated over 5.4 million Birr to Japan in support of survivors of the deadly earthquake and tsunami that devastated the country in March.
Foreign and Deputy Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn handed over the money to Japanese ambassador to Ethiopia Hiroyuki Kishino on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, Hailemariam, on behalf of the people and government of Ethiopia, expressed sympathy with the people and government of Japan at this time of adversity. Japan is one of the key development partners of Ethiopia, Hailemariam said.
He guaranteed continued solidarity of the people and government of Ethiopia with those of Japan. Ambasador Kishino for his part expressed gratitude to the people and government of Ethiopia for their gesture of solidarity. He said the current relief aid would add force to existing bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
