Addis Ababa, March 25, 2011 (Addis Ababa, ENA) - Ethiopia and Uruguay signed on Wednesday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish diplomatic relations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told ENA on a statement on Friday.
Permanent Representative of Ethiopian to UN, Ambassador Dr. Tekeda Alemu and his Uruguayan counterpart, Ambassador Jose Luis Cancela Gomez signed the MoU.
On the occasion, Ambassador Dr. Tekeda said Uruguay’s request to establish diplomatic relations with Ethiopia is welcomed.
He said Ethiopia is widening its bilateral and multilateral diplomatic relations in the economic, political and security issues.
The Ambassador said he will exert the necessary effort to strengthen the bilateral relations of the two countries.
Ambassador Cancela on his part said his country is desirous to strengthen the relations with Ethiopia.
As Ethiopia is the seat of the African Union, establishing diplomatic relation with the country will assist Uruguay to strengthen its relation with other Africa countries, he said.
